This weekend we baked [another] batch of our kale chips and I finally snapped some pics so you can cook these kale chips too!
These kale chips are not only gorgeously golden, totally crispy and utterly moreish BUT are your perfect chance to get your kids into the kitchen cooking along with you.
Below are your step-by-step instructions to make your very own kale chips.
As you can see Grace had so much fun making [and eating] these babies.
From washing the kale, to tossing the wee chips in olive oil and sea salt – my gorgeous little helper didn’t stop smiling.
Preparing the kale chips is a TONNE of fun for your child PLUS it helps your little one become more acquainted [& hopefully try] new foods!
Overcoming fussy eating is all about exposure…Harry took a few batches before he would gobble up his kale chips. But we got there. And now he loves them.
Fingers crossed, your gorgeous fam bam will too!
To make your own kale chips simply…
Begin by washing and drying your hands with your child.
Preheat oven to 200 degrees celsius (390 F) and line 2 oven trays with baking paper. Set aside.
Set your child up safely at the kitchen bench OR small table. My kids feel confident stating on stools – but when they were younger I would pop their kids sized table into the middle of the kitchen and get them to work at the table.
Read the recipe together and collect the ingredients needed – naming them as you go.
At the sink – ask your little one to rinse each kale stalk under running water.
Place the washed kale onto a tea towel and dry thoroughly.
Ask your little one to tear the kale leaves from the stems and set aside.
Arm your child with a small serrated knife and ask them to cut the kale leaves into smaller pieces (approx. 2cm x 2cm). And to place the kale pieces onto the prepared trays.
Ask your little one to pour the olive oil over the kale chips.
Then to season the chips with a little salt.
Ask your child to squish and toss the kale chips to ensure each piece is covered in oil and salt.
Place the kale chips into the preheated oven to bake for 10-15 minutes, or until golden and crisp.
Allow your kale chips to cool for 10 minutes or so before digging in. Enjoy X
