Do you wish your family ate more real food and less processed junk from packets?
Me too!
That’s why today I’m sharing 10 fab food swaps to eat MORE real food & LESS packet nasties.
I believe real food ROCKS!
My mission? Is to teach our kids to COOK and EAT more food from the farm. And less from packets.
Why?
Because ‘we are what we eat’.
And our families deserve a life FULL of health and happiness. It’s that simple.
BUT, life is busy!
We all want to cook from scratch and control what goes into our food but to do so we need simple recipes.
And the 10 recipes I’m sharing with you today are just that, simple.
These recipes are so easy to make.
Full of nutritional goodness.
They give YOU CONTROL over how much sugar, salt and fat goes into your family’s food.
PLUS, they’re the healthier and fresher version of what you would normally purchase at the supermarket.
Oh and they’re DELICIOUS!
Now, let ‘s be real…modern life is busy. And cooking ALL of our families food from scratch is not gonna happen. We all have days when a store bought roast chook and a cheeky ice cream treat are the only things that will do. #keepingitreal
BUT, with a little planning and these 10 clever food swaps we can move our families towards eating more whole food goodness and less packet nasties.
Together, let’s focus on progress and not perfection.
And move our families towards brighter futures.
Happy cooking!
choc chip cookies – my little Harry is obsessed with choc chips cookies! They are a ‘must-have’ in our house hold. The store bought versions are usually full of salt, overly processed oils and waaayyyyyyyy too much sugar. THESE home made choc chip cookies are a clever mix of wholemeal flour, oats, coconut and sweetened with maple syrup [you can control the amount]. This recipe also allows you to control what kind of chocolate goes into your cookies – if your budget allows, pick a high quality dark chocolate.
You’ll never buy store bought potato chips again once you’ve baked our kale chips. The gorgeously green kale chips are crispy, crunchy and utterly moorish. PLUS, kale is a nutritional powerhouse, the perfect snack to sneak a WHOLE lot of goodness into your family. I even pop these into Gracie’s lunch box…they never return home.
Swap frozen potato chips with our sweet potato fries and you’ll be so glad you did. Sweet potato is another nutritional powerhouse in the veggie world PLUS it’s natural sweetness makes it a hit with the little ones. This simple recipe uses tapioca starch (or cornflour) to create the most crispy, crunchy, golden and irresistible fries EVER. And SKIP peeling the sweet potato! Leave the skin on – it adds to the crunch and is a source of extra nutritional goodness.
Are store bought dips actually worth your chip? Not when you see how simple our zesty dipping sauce is to create. Simply pop the yoghurt, dill, parsley, lemon zest and juice, garlic and sea salt into a processor and BLITZ. Done. And not a preservative, vegetable oil or unnecessary sugar in sight.
Why buy ice cream when making your own frozen treats is so easy? Our raspberry swirl popsicles are made of 5 simple ingredients. No hidden nasties here. Just beautiful greek yoghurt, milk, antioxidant rich raspberries, a dash of maple and a squeeze of vanilla bean paste.
Making your own guacamole at home let’s you sneak in extra veggies! Our veggie loaded guacamole adds cherry tomatoes, red onion, capsicum and fresh herbs to our avocado dip. Such a clever way to get more real food into your family. And yes, we serve our guacamole with store bought corn chips BUT it’s also gorgeous served with home made sweet potato fries.
Breakfast is another opportunity to ditch processed nasties and get more real food into your family. Our chocolatey granola is a much healthier alternative to store bought sugar-laden breakfast cereal. This chocolatey granola is a clever mix of filling oats, puffed millet, shredded coconut, pumpkin seeds and pecans. 10 mins prep + 10 mins in the oven = 8 serves of the most GORGEOUS home made granola EVER.
We all love a chocolate treat. Whilst store bought chocolatey treats are great hiding places for too much sugar and nasties we can’t pronounce, our no bake choc coconut slice is nothing but simple whole food goodness. A clever mix of oats, coconut, almonds, cacao and dates these squares of chocolate are entirely guilt free. If you need these to be ‘nut-free’ simply replace the 1 cup of almonds with an extra 1/2 cup of oats and 1/2 cup of coconut.
Making pumpkin soup at home, with your kids is your chance to teach your kids where real food comes from. With no cans in sight, your kids will see how a simple pumpkin can be turned into a luscious creamy bowl of soup. No unnecessary salt needed. No preservatives. And no hidden nasties. Nothing beats home made soup.
Nutritionally speaking – store bought muesli bars don’t come close to the goodness found in our carrot cake porridge bars. We manage to sneak 2 bananas, 2 carrots, 6 medjool dates PLUS a whole lot of nutritional goodness into these 8 bars. You’ll feel so proud watching your little ones enjoy these bars.
Yes, you can buy store bought juice but you’re basically getting concentrated sugar and no fibre. Why not make a home made smoothie instead. Our cherry ripe smoothie is full of cherries and whole bananas plus coconut, dates, milk, cacao, maple and a little vanilla. These smoothies really do taste just like the chocolate bar but are so much better for you and your family.
There you have it lovely, 10 fab food swaps to eat MORE real food & LESS packet nasties!
