Grace and Harry love to make breakfast.
When my sleepy little heads wake up and stumble into the kitchen all bleary eyed – they wrap their little arms around me for a good morning cuddle and immediately ask ‘what’s for breakfast mama?’
I rattle off a list of their usual favs like our smoothie bowls, pea and pesto mini frittata’s or home made muesli BUT lately boiled eggs and solders are what their hungry tummies want most.
We’ve made these perfectly soft boiled eggs so many times the kids know the routine down pat.
Harry opens the fridge to grab the eggs.
Grace pushes her stool up to the kitchen bench.
I reach for the loaf of bread and butter.
And together we boil eggs, toast and butter bread and voila – breakfast is done.
Nestled at the kitchen bench the kids dip their golden pieces of toast into their squishy bright orange yolks and gobble up breakfast.
I watch whilst sipping my coffee and wonder how I got so lucky to have these two little munchkins to call mine.
Oh and if you’re wondering where we got our super cute egg cups, plates and knitted egg warmers – they’re from bed, bath n table. This isn’t a sponsored post – I just love them.
To make your own boiled eggs and soldiers simply…
Begin by washing and drying your hands with your child.
Set them up safely at the kitchen bench OR small table. My kids feel confident standing on stools – but when they were younger I would pop their kids sized table into the middle of the kitchen and get them to work at the table.
Read the recipe together and collect the ingredients needed – naming them as you go.
Fill a small saucepan with cold water and ask your child to gently place the eggs into the pan.
Place the pan over medium-high heat and bring to the boil. Reduce heat to low-medium and simmer for 3 minutes. Remove the boiled eggs with a slotted spoon and place into egg cups.
Meanwhile, place two pieces of bread into the toaster and cook until golden.
Place the toast onto a large wooden board and ask your little one to butter each piece using a butter knife.
Next, ask your child to use the butter knife to cut each piece of bread into 4 long rectangles or soldiers.
Ask your little one to place the soldiers onto two plates.
Place the boiled eggs into egg cups and cover with super cute (and totally unnecessary) egg warmers. Lol. Enjoy your soft boiled eggs and soldiers still warm. X
